FAQs
WHAT IS SALICYLIC ACID?
Salicylic acid is a BHA and is a derivative of aspirin. It minimises the plugging of follicles through its ability to be oil soluble. Salicylic is able to lift the debris that is in the follicle and increase cell turnover in the stratum corneum. This acid is ideal for treating acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and age management. The results are refined pores, greater skin clarity, reduction in redness, and improvement in texture and acne breakouts.
WHAT IS MALIC ACID?
Malic acid is a larger molecule than Glycolic or Lactic, so it penetrates slowly and is very effective for sensitive skin types. Because malic acid maintains a pH of <2 as it goes through the skin surface when applied after the salicylic step, it is able to penetrate deeper than Glycolic or Lactic acid, stimulating cell turnover without excessive exfoliation. Malic acid reduces problem bacteria, enhances skin hydration and brightening. Best suited for visible ageing, acne and hyperpigmentation. Results are smoother, brighter and more hydrated skin.
HOW DOES THE EPIONCE PEEL SYSTEM IMPROVE AGEING?
In our 20s and 30s, our skin is at its optimum cell turnover rate, with new cells making their way to the surface of the skin every 28-32 days. As we age, this process slows, which causes increased dead skin cell buildup on the surface of the skin. Superficial peels encourage cell turnover by loosening the bonds of the 'glue' that hold skin cells together, and after the initial light exfoliation, your skin appears fresher and smoother.
HOW DOES THE EPIONCE PEEL SYSTEM IMPROVE HYPERPIGMENTATION?
The Sal-e peel is a Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and its effects on the epidermis and upper dermis (where melanin is created) are similar to those of Retin-A, but with less irritation. It is soluble in oil and can exfoliate oily skin areas, even within oil-rich pores. Therefore, it has a beneficial effect on pigmentary disturbances and sun damaged skin. Because it does exfoliation, sun protection is required following the peel procedure.
HOW DOES THE EPIONCE PEEL SYSTEM IMPROVE ACNE/PROBLEM SKIN?
BHA is a derivative of aspirin and is often used in skincare products to accelerate skin turnover, clear out pores and reduce disease-causing microbe counts. This improves the visible appearance of acne and problem skin. BHA penetrates more deeply, especially into pores, than Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). The Epionce Peel System is a superficial peel, it does penetrate to the bottom of the epidermis, but there is minimal downtime. It may be applied in layers which can be easily adjusted for appropriate delivery. The peel is comparable to a Jessner peel, but made with gentler ingredients.
BENEFITS OF THE EPIONCE PEEL SYSTEM
Salicylic acid and Malic acid accelerate cell turnover with less exfoliation than other peels to reveal more beautiful, radiant skin. When combined, sal-e and mal-e synergistically aid in the increase of a skin cell turnover and effectiveness of the peel, producing effects equal to, or greater than, a Jessner peel.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT
The peel procedure will take 20-60 minutes, depending on the time the peel stays on the skin before neutralising, or the number of layers needed, or client comfort level. The peel is formulated to penetrate deeply into the epidermal layers, and trigger cell turnover with minimal exfoliation. Individual results vary; you may or may not peel, depending on the quantity of peel used, and the time the peel is on the skin. It is normal to experience mild stinging and tightness, but it should subside within 24-48 hours following the procedure. It is common to experience some temporary skin discolouration, dryness and flaking, usually around the nose and lips. Medical Barrier Cream will help relieve those symptoms. You must let the treated skin exfoliate naturally.
